Our Philosophy

At Little Learners we are committed and dedicated to providing the best quality care and education for all children, in a warm, safe, secure, caring, loving, trusting and nurturing environment in which children can develop physically, socially, emotionally and intellectually.

We are committed to protecting all children and providing a safe and friendly environment. We will protect all children in our care from any foreseeable risk of harm, abuse or injury. We are guided by the Child Safe standards. Part of our Educators role is to keep children safe from child abuse. We have embedded child safety into our everyday thinking and practices.

We understand that the first 5 years of a child’s life is critical in their development and learning.

We provide a play-based curriculum in line with the Early Years Learning Framework. Our programming reflects the children’s needs, interests and strengths so they can be actively involved in their learning. Our learning environment plays a vital role in supporting children’s learning, is inviting, welcoming and nurturing. Play spaces and activities are interesting and age appropriate. We provide opportunities for children to discover, imagine, explore, experiment and interact in all play spaces.

We welcome all children and families, and actively work on creating and maintaining a culturally safe, and culturally inclusive environment. We aim for all children and families to feel connected and a sense of belonging to our Centre, and part of the Centre’s community. We provide an inclusive program that respects and values the diverse backgrounds and abilities of all children and families.

We foster and develop positive relationships with families, enabling us to work collaboratively, supporting the continuity of care, which in turn enhances the child’s wellbeing and progress. We view our roles as educators as supportive, facilitating and extending each child’s interests to promote their exploration of life.

We understand that all children are individuals and develop at different stages and learn in different ways. Our planning and programming is based around each child’s interest and learning development.

We support and encourage children to become independent. We encourage children’s self-help skills, where we guide children to feed themselves, put clothes on, take off shoes. We encourage hygiene at all times throughout the day.

At Little Learners children are given choices and can participate in a variety of experiences, including opportunities to learn about themselves and the world around them. Children have the time to advance their learning by exploring, investigating, repeating activities and to experience meaningful interactions with educators and other children, both indoor and outdoor

We encourage children’s awareness of the environment and a sense of connection to the natural world around us. We grow vegetables in our garden and encourage the children to engage in the practices of planting, watering, picking and eating the vegetables to gain knowledge about the environment.

We encourage children to participate in sustainable practices by recycling their unwanted water into the garden and encourage children to recycle and reuse many materials to recreate something new that makes meaning to them.

At Little Learners we focus on five key learning outcomes – as outlined in the Early Years Learning Framework:

  • LO 1- Identity: children are encouraged to express their individual personalities.
  • LO 2Community: children are encouraged to connect with, and contribute to their world.
  • LO 3- Wellbeing: children are made to feel safe and secure at all times.
  • LO 4Learning: children are taught how to actively involve themselves in their learning.
  • LO 5Communication: children learn effective communication skills for a lifetime of success.

It is our aim to provide a loving, caring, and nurturing environment that promotes each child’s learning, development, self-esteem, equality, and individuality, whilst enjoying a day at Little Learners with lots of fun.
